An Easter Message

Three days after Jesus was crucified two women, proposed to be Mary Magdalene and "the other Mary" perhaps the mother of Jesus, visited the tomb where He was laid.  They found the stone covering the grave tomb was rolled away and He was not there.  An angel of the Lord was guarding the tomb.

"The angel said to the women, Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.  He is not here; He has risen, just as He said."  Matthew 28: 5-6  NIV

He visited briefly with the disciples and then ascended into Heaven to be with the Father.  He awaits for those who accept Him as Lord and Savior, to live with Him forever.

Commandment Ten

“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”  Exodus 20:17  NIV

We break this commandment by desiring that which is not ours.  Coveting leaves us open to disobey against many of God’s other commandments.

Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him.”

A tough thing to do!  Most of us want to “reason out” everything.  Faith in God however, encourages us to forgo our own reasoning and place our trust, or “faith”, in Him.  We must have faith in God in order to please Him.

Commandment Nine

“You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.”  Exodus 20:16  NIV

When you appear in a court of law you may be asked to give your “testimony”.  If you do not tell the truth, it is a false testimony, or, you have lied.  God says to not lie for it is a sin.  Even what some call a little “white lie”, is still a sin.  God makes no indication in this commandment that the “size” of the lie makes a difference.  There is no distinction.

Commandment Five

"Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you."  Exodus 20:12

I think the following explanation of the fifth Commandment from the Asbury Bible Commentary is accurate and to the point.  "No nation that forgets its debt to those who have gone before can endure.  Self-centered arrogance that cuts its ties to previous benefactors will break the threads of continuity and development upon which any civilization depends.  But more specifically, no nation can endure in which the family structure is not consciously upheld.  To refuse to honor one's parents, however fallible they may be or have been, destroys the sense of identity and place upon which healthy personhood depends." (The bold emphasis is mine.)

How can we expect God to bless this nation when we as a people have not followed His commandments.  We (including me) have not properly relayed to our children the importance of God's messages to our own well being as individuals and as a nation.  It started long ago, perhaps from the beginning of this nation, and has slowly worsened to the point of where we are today.  It has happened so gradually that we don't even notice it, right under our noses.  That's how the devil works.  I write this message on Independence Day, July 4, 2012, and I say now it is time to declare our independence from the devil and return to our God.  That's the only way we will survive and prosper as a nation, no matter who is the president, who is in congress, or who is the chair of our local cities and towns.

If you happen to be reading this from a nation other than the United States (we do have some readers from other countries), the message is the same.  No nation can endure without the integrity of the family, and its faithfulness to God, continually upheld from generation to generation.
